Almost Reunited!

I have a confession. During the first weeks after delivery, I almost take as much pleasure in watching my swollen extremities shrink as I do in watching my newborn develop. This pregnancy was the first one in which I had to remove my wedding bands. My hands were swollen during the other pregnancies; however, I opted to continue wearing my rings until they were so big I could not longer take them off. This time I developed a rash under the rings so they had to go.

I was very self conscious when it came to removing my bands, seeing as it is the most recognizable symbol of marital commitment and fidelity in our culture. But, hubby convinced me that it was better to be mistaken for an unwed mother than to continue to allow a skin rash to spread and take over my hand. I guessed he was right, so I eventually relinquished.

I've longed for the day when I would be reunited with my precious bands, and it looks like I'm almost there! I can get the wedding band on all the way, but I'm still off on the engagement band. Take a look. What do you think? Maybe another few weeks and they will both fit?

  1. That finger looks a bit red. That means the rings are disturbing the blood flow to and from your ring finger. Not a doc, but that might cause problems. Have you thought about wearing your rings on a chain as a necklace?

  2. I know exactly what you mean. I always felt kind of weird whenever I had to take my wedding rings off and was out in public.

I felt so self-conscious that people would think that I was an unwed mother. It seems silly, but I couldn't help it.

  3. You poor girl! I never got rashes or anything, but I did get too swollen to wear them for the end of my first pregnancy, and then I think maybe a bit with my second. I lost a bunch of weight then, though, so I kept them on for my third. I know what you mean about feeling self conscious - I feel that way any time I have to take my rings off. Even when I'm at home and kneading bread dough or something and take them off, I'm afraid I'll go out and forget to put them back on. While I'm not exactly in favour of tattoos, this one be one area that would work nicely - if your ring was a tattoo, you wouldn't have to take it off no matter how swollen you got!

  4. Cara- I have seen people wear their rings around a necklace. I think I'm just going to have to wait this one out though. Hopefully, they will fit soon!

  5. Such a beautiful ring. Made me think of that song from back in the day: Reunited and it feels so good.
